SRT to VTT converter (and VTT to SRT)
Paste subtitles or choose a file. It works out which format you have and converts it to the other. Everything happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
What it changes
- SRT to VTT: adds the WEBVTT header, changes the comma in each timestamp to a period, and turns lines starting “Speaker 1:” into speaker tags.
- VTT to SRT: changes periods to commas, writes full hours, numbers every subtitle, and turns speaker tags into “Name:” at the start of the line.
- What SRT can't hold: VTT notes, styling and positions are left out, and the converter lists anything it left out.
Which one do you need?
- YouTube accepts both. SRT is the simple choice; VTT adds positioning.
- Captions on your own website need VTT: browsers read captions for a video in that format.
Need subtitles from a recording?
